Elma is a city in Grays Harbor County, Washington, United States. The population was 3,438 at the 2020 census. Summers are warm and dry, while winters are cool and very wet. Some form of precipitation occurs on half of all days on average. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Elma has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, abbreviated "Csb" on climate maps. Elma is located at 47°020N 123°2423W (47.005648, -123.406268).According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.92 square miles (4.97 km²), of which, 1.89 square miles is land and 0.03 sq miles (0.08 km²) is water. The city is located on the shores of Lake Elma, which is a body of water that is part of the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Washington state. It has a population of 3,437, according to the 2010 census. The area has a temperature of 47.2 degrees F (11.7 degrees C) and a dry climate, with some form of rain on average every day of the year. The city is located on the Colorado River, which flows through the center of the city. Elma is home to the Elma Airport, one of the busiest airports in the U.S. and the only one in the state with an international airport. The airport has a passenger capacity of 1,000,000 (1,100,000 km²). The airport is located near the town of Elma, which has a population of around 1,500 (1.5 million people). The city's airport is one of only a handful of airports in North America with a population in excess of 1 million (1 million or 1.6 million people) The airport also serves as a hub for the town's international airport, which is located just south of the border with New Mexico. It has a diameter of about 1.5 miles (2.5 kilometers) and an area of 0.03 miles (0.08 kilometers).
