Liberty Lake is a city in Spokane County, Washington, United States located adjacent to the eponymous lake. Located just over a mile (about 2 km) west of the WashingtonIdaho border, Liberty Lake is both a suburb of Spokane, Washington and a bedroom community to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Liberty Lake was named after a pioneer who settled near the lake, Etienne Edward Laliberte, later he changed his name to Steve Liberty. The town was officially incorporated on August 31, 2001. The city is bounded by the Spokane River on the north from Hodges Road in the west to approximately Molter Road. At Molter the border shifts south to Interstate-90, which it follows to within a mile of the Idaho state line. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.14 square miles (15.90 km²), all of it land. In 2010, there were 7,591 people in 2,893 households, including 2,019 families, in the city. The gender makeup of the city was 48.3% male and 51.7% female. In the 2000 census there were 4,660 people in 1,771 households, and 1,347 families in the town of Liberty Lake. The population was 12,003 at the 2020 census. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.15. It is one of the fastest-growing communities in the State of Washington.
History
Liberty Lake was officially incorporated on August 31, 2001. The town has a population of about 1,000. It is located on the banks of the Ohio River. The lake was named after Liberty Lake, a town in the U.S. state of Ohio.
Geography
Liberty Lake is located in the Spokane Valley, at 47°3922N 117°511W (47.656171, -117.086287). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.14 square miles (15.90 km²), all of it land. The city is bounded by the Spokane River on the north from Hodges Road in the west to approximately Molter Road. Elevations there range from between 2,000 feet above sea level at the river to around 2,150 feet around Liberty Lake Elementary School. The lake itself is located outside of the city limits about three blocks south of Sprague. Liberty Lake is one of the fastest-growing communities in the State of Washington. It is located south of the Spokane river from Otis Orchards-East Farms, Washington, east of Greenacres, Washington (now part of Spokane Valley) and west of Spokane Bridge, Washington, Idaho, and Post Falls, Idaho. It has a population of 2,816. It was founded in the early 1900s by a group of farmers who moved to the area from the nearby town of Otis, Washington. The current mayor of Liberty Lake has been in office since the early 1990s. The mayor has been re-elected three times, the last time in 2010. He was re- elected in 2012 and again in 2014. He is currently running for re-election in 2016 and 2016, and is expected to win.

The state health department is based in Trenton and runs the Trenton-Trenton Medical Center, which provides care for the elderly and chronically ill. It is the state's largest health care provider, with more than 2,000 employees. The town's hospital system is the largest employer in the state, with over 1,000 full-time employees. It has a population of 4,660, with 1,771 households.

There are no high schools or high schools in Liberty Lake. The area has a large number of golf courses, including one that opened in 1998.
