Pearl City is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located in the Ewa District and City & County of Honolulu on the Island of Oahu. As of the 2010 Census, the CDP had a total population of 47,698. Waimalu borders Pearl City to the east, while Waipahu borders the west. The U.S. postal code for Pearl City is 96782. In the early 1880s, Pearl City was the final stop for Benjamin Franklin Dillingham's Oahu Railway, a mud wagon driven by a four-horse team. Near the outskirts of Pearl City, the Remond Grove, an area where people could be entertained with piano, banjo, trumpet, and saxophone performances, was a popular entertainment spot in the early 1900s. History

Early-day Pearl City had an array of rice paddies and fields that were plowed with water buffalo that would haul a two-wheeled cart. In the early 1880s, Pearl City was the final stop for Benjamin Franklin Dillingham's Oahu Railway, a mud wagon driven by a four-horse team. Lots for an as-yet-to-exist "Pearl City" went on sale in 1889, after completion of the actual rail line. Near the outskirts of Pearl City, the Remond Grove, an area where people could be entertained with piano, banjo, trumpet, and saxophone performances, was a popular entertainment spot in the early 1900s. The city was named after the town of Pearl, Hawaii, which was on the island of Oahu in the Hawaiian state of Kaua'i, where the city was founded in 1788. The town was named for the city's first mayor, Benjamin Franklin, who was born in 1787. The current mayor, Neil Abercrombie, was the son of Benjamin Franklin and the daughter of James Abercram, a former mayor of Honolulu who was killed in a plane crash in 1846. He was the grandson of the former mayor, who died in 1852 at the age of 24. The name "Pearls City" was used to refer to a town in the state's early history. The word "Pearles" means "Pearling" in Hawaiian. The "Pearle" in the city name means "the place" or "place of the pearl" in Spanish.

As of the census of 2010, there were 47,698 people, 14,622 households, and 7,288 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 6,215.5 inhabitants per square mile (2,399.8/km²). There were 9,181 housing units at an average density of 1,842.2 per squaremile (711.3/km 2) The racial makeup of the CPD was 59.24% White, 2.71% African American, 0.27% Native American, 1.41% from other races, and 18.81% from two or more races. The CDP is located on the New Jersey Turnpike, which connects to New Jersey and New Jersey via the N.J.-Massachusetts border. The CDP includes Manana, Momilani, Palisades, Pearl City, PearlCity Highlands, Waimalu, and Waiau elementary schools and Pearl City High School. As of the 2010 U.S. Census, the WaimAlu CDP is now in the Pearl city CDP and the Highlands Intermediate School is in the Highlands CDP as of the 2000 U.S. Census. The Honolulu Public Library system operates thePearl City Regional Library, which began operations on November 15, 1969. It is located on the island of Oahu in the city of Honolulu. The library is part of the Hawai'i State Public School System, which operates public schools in Oahu and the islands of Kaua'i, Oahu, Molokai, and Moloka'i. It also operates a branch of the University ofHawaii system, which is located in the Honolulu suburb of Mokulani. The Hawaii Hawks won the 2003 Field Hockey World Cup 107. A Pearl City youth baseball team, the Pearl City KRU, represented the Pacific Southwest region in the Cal Ripken Baseball 10U (age 10 and under) World Series. The KRU team won all of their games in pool play, and made it to the World Series finals, where they lost to the team from West Raleigh, North Carolina, by a score of 5-3. In 2007, they won the Junior League World Series, after winning the West Region, then defeating the Central Region and Southwest Region champions to become the U.S. champion, and finally defeating the International champion (Asia-Pacific Region), Illam Central LL (Makati, Philippines), 62-0. In 1998, a Pearl City baseball teamPearl City Little League (District 7) Represented the US in the Little League WorldSeries finals. The team lost to a team from Taipei, Taiwan. In 2017, the team represented the United States in the 10U World Series in Hammond, Indiana, which hosted nine other teams from across the country. This series was held in Hammond and the team won their pool play games in all three games, winning all three of them. They also won the final game of the series, beating the North Carolina-based team by a margin of 3-2. The Hawaii Hawks are currently ranked No. 1 in the world in the field hockey competition, with a goal of winning the 2015 World Cup.
