History

Ripon, Wisconsin was named for Ripon, England. Ripon's economy is largely agriculture based, known especially for its high production of almonds. Areas north of the Golden State (99) Freeway were slated for housing divisions in 1998. The city was previously known as Murphy's Ferry, Stanislaus City, andStanislaus Station, and was renamed for the English city of Ripon in the 1930s. It is located on the shores of Lake Michigan. It has a population of about 3,000. It was once known as Stanislau City, but was renamed Ripon after the city was named after the English town of the same name in the 1950s. In 1998, great expansion began for the city, with huge swaths of agricultural land being slated for development. The town is now home to more than 2,000 people. The average household size was 2.93; the average family size was 3.34; and the average town population was 11,392 (79.7%), according to the 2010 U.S. Census. The city is located in the San Francisco Bay Area and is on the California Bay Area Coast. It is home to the California State University, San Francisco. The town's name is derived from the Ripon River, which runs through the city. It was once known as the "Ripon River".

Transportation

Ripon station is an Altamont Corridor Express commuter rail station planned to be constructed for service starting in 2023. The station will be located in the city of Ripon, California. It is expected to be completed in time for the 2023 start of commuter rail service. It will be the first station in Ripon to be built on the Altamonte Corridor Express line. It has a planned capacity of 2,000 riders per day.
