Burley is a city in Cassia and Minidoka counties in southern Idaho, United States. The population was 10,345 at the 2010 census. Burley is the third-largest city in Idaho's Magic Valley region after Twin Falls, and Jerome. It forms the bulk of the "Mini-Cassia" area of southern Idaho. The hottest temperature recorded in Burley was 107 °F (42 °C) on July 30, 2000, while the coldest temperature recorded was 30 °C on January 29, 1949 and January 22, 1962. In 2008, a group of local farmers sued the Idaho BLM (Bureau of Land Management) because pesticides that the Burley BLM office sprayed on their lands were carried by a wind storm onto farmers lands. The community was named after David Ellsworth Burley, a railroad official. The city is the county seat of Cassia County. It is the principal city of the Burleys, Idaho, Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes Cassia, Minidokas, and Rupert. It has a semi-arid climate (Köppen BSk) with cold winters and hot, dry summers. The median age in the city was 30.8 years. History

A post office called Burley has been in operation since 1905. The community was named after David Ellsworth Burley, a railroad official. Burley is located on the U.S. continental railway between Chicago and New York City. The town has a population of about 1,000. The post office is located at the center of the town, near the intersection of two main routes: I-70 and I-80. It is located near the junction of the two main railroads, about a mile north of the city's main junction, and about a half-mile south of the junction for the I- County railroad routes I-80 and I  Counties I, E, F, L, R, S, and I Counties South and North of Burley are all in the same district. It was named for David Burley who was an official on the U.S.-Illinois Railroad in the late 1800s and early 1900s. He was known as the "Burley Railroadman" and was a member of the Board of Committee of Managers of the Interior Railroads and the United States Railway Commission. He died in 1903, leaving a wife and two children in the community. The village is named after his son, who was also a railway official and served as the town's postmaster.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.44 square miles (16.68 km²), of which 6.12 sq miles (15.85 km²) is land and 0.32sq miles (0.83 km²") is water. The coldest temperature recorded was 30°F (34 °C), on January 29, 1949 and January 22, 1962. In Burley, the average temperature for the month of January is 20°C (62°F), while the average for the whole of February is 20 °C (64°F) (1966-2014). Burley has a population of 1,816 (1,822 people) according to the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau estimate. The city's population is 1,722 (1.823 people).

Burley is home to the famed "Spudman" Triathlon and the Idaho Regatta. The town is also home to a number of other cultural events, such as the Idaho State Museum. The city is located on the Idaho River, which runs through the town's downtown area.

Burley was the setting of the X-Files episode "Patience" Although the episode is set in Burley, it was filmed in Los Angeles, California. Burley was also the setting for the film "The Godfather: Part II", which was set in the town of Burley. The town was also featured in the film The Godfather, Part III, and the film's sequel, "The godfather: Parts IV and V", which were filmed in the city. The city was also used as the location for the TV series "The X- Files" in the 1980s and 1990s, and again in the 2000s, when the series was rebooted. It is now the location of "The Walking Dead" and "The Simpsons" TV series, which was filmed there in the 1990s and 2000s. It has also been used in the movie "The Hobbit" and the TV show "The Lord of the Rings" television series, as well as in the "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" series of books and films. It was also mentioned in the book "The Chronicles of Narnia" by Neil Gaiman, who wrote the novel "Narnia: The Lost City of Light" and appeared in it as a supporting character in the first few episodes of the series. It also appeared in the TV movie "Narcissus" as a backdrop for "The Mummy's" first appearance in "The Dark Knight Rises".

The Cassia County portion of Burley is a part of the Cassia School District. Burley residents are zoned to the following schools: Burley Junior High, Burley High, and Oakley Elementary. The Minidoka County portion is zoned to the Minidokas School District, which includes West Minico Middle School and Minico High School. Residents of Minidoko County Burley are zoning to: Heyburn Elementary School (Heyburn) and West Minica Middle School (Unincorporated Minidoku County) Burley also has its own high school, the Burley High School, which is located in Burley. The school district also has a middle school and high school in the town of Malta. The high school is called the Raft River Elementary School. The elementary school is located at Malda High School and the high school is called Oakley Jr/Sr High School (Oakley) The town also has an elementary school, Mountain View Elementary, and a junior high, which are all located in the city of Montgomery. The town has a post office, which opened in 1883. The post office has been closed since the early 1990s. The city has a library, which was opened in the 1950s. It is located on the banks of the Missouri Mississippi River, which runs through the town. The community has a golf course, which has been built in the 1960s.
