Mountainburg is a town in Crawford County, Arkansas, United States. It is part of the Fort Smith, Arkansas-Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census the population was 631. The city park in downtown Mountainburg has since 1980 hosted two large dinosaur models. Lake Fort Smith State Park, which is situated on the western side of the 1,400 acres (5.7 km²) LakeFort Smith, is located 8 miles (13 km) north of Mountainburg. Mountainburg is located along U.S. Route 71, and thrived when this road was the main route in northwest Arkansas. Since the construction of Interstate 540 (now Interstate 49) to the west, it has been a sleepier community. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.5 square miles (3.9 km²), all land. Makers of the dinosaur models in the city park have called Mountainburg the "Dinosaur Capital of the World" The city is home to a public school district, Mountainburg Elementary School, and Mountainburg High School, which was founded in 1883. The school district has a mascot, the Mountainburgosaurus, which has been in existence since the early 1900s.

Geography

It also has a museum of American Civil War history, which dates back to the early 20th century. The National Park Service is based in Mountainburg, Arkansas, and maintains a park on the town's outskirts.

The river runs through the city's downtown area and is known as the "Little Snake River" The city's name is derived from the name of a local Native American tribe, which was once called the "Snake River Indians" The town's name comes from a Native American word, which means "Snake" or "Snake". The city was once known as "The Snake River Village" because it was the site of a settlement of Native Americans, who lived in the area until the 1800s. The name is now used to refer to the city as "the Snake River Valley".

Notable person

Jim Clark was a bank robber and Depression-era outlaw. He was known for his bank robberies in the Midwest. Clark was also a member of the U.S. Air Force. He died in a plane crash in 1969. He is survived by his wife and two children. He also has a son, Jim Clark Jr., who was born in 1941. Clark is remembered for his role in the film "The Godfather," which was released in 1973. He has also appeared in the TV series "The Sopranos" and "Boardwalk Empire," as well as in a few other films and TV series appearances.
