Carlisle is a city in Lonoke County, Arkansas, United States. It is the easternmost municipality within the Little RockNorth Little RockConway Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 2,214. Carlisle was incorporated in 1878. The city is located at 34°4710N 91°4441W (34.786109, -91.744835). Interstate 40 passes through the northern side of the city, with access from Exit 183 (Highway 13). I-40 leads east 57 miles (92 km) to Forrest City and west 29 miles (47km) to North Little Rock. U.S. Route 70 runs through the center of Carlisle as Park Street and serves as a local highway. Bayou Two Prairie, a southeast-flowing tributary of Bayou Meto, touches the southwest corner of theCity limits. The town is home to Carlisle High School, which leads people to graduation from Des Arc School (primary school) and Iola High School (secondary school). Carlisle is the home of Johnny Adams, a former NFL offensive lineman for the New York Giants and the Kansas City Chiefs.Carlisle has a total area of 4.9 square miles (13 km²), of which 4.7 square miles are land and 0.04 square miles, or 0.10 km², are water. Bayou Two Prairie, a southeast-flowing tributary of Bayou Meto, touches the southwest corner of the town limits. The city is located on the Arkansas River, which flows through the town. The town of Carlisle was founded in the early 1800s. The first recorded European settlement in the area was in the 17th century. Carlisle is the site of the 18th-century Carlisle House, which was built on a site that is now part of the Little Rock, Arkansas, city limits. It was built in the 19th century as a center for the town of Lonoke, which is now the county seat. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that the city has a population of 2,000.
