Ash Grove is a city in Greene County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,512 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Springfield, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Berry Cemetery, Nathan Boone House, and Gilmore Barn are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The city was named from a grove of ash trees near the original town site. The town is located at 37°1856N 93°352W (37.315629, -93.583829).According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.22 square miles (3.16 km²) The city is located approximately twenty miles northwest of Springfield, the state's third-largest city. The town has a population of about 1,000. It is located on the Ohio River, which runs through the center of the city. It was named after an ash tree in the town's namesake area, Ash Grove, which means "ash tree" or "ash grove" in the U.S. and " Grove" in U.N. English. It has a history dating back to 1853, when the town was first laid out. Its current name is derived from the name of an ash grove near the town site, which was originally called "Ash Grove" and "Ashgro" The town's population has grown to around 1,200.
