Sarcoxie Township is an inactive township in Jasper County, in the U.S. state of Missouri.It takes its name from the community of Sarcoxie, Missouri, which is located in the township.It is the only township in the county that does not have a city or town.The township was established in 1872 and was named after Sar Coxie, a small town in Missouri. It was named for the Sarcoxies, who lived in the area. The town is located on the Missouri-Missouri state line and is in the eastern part of the county. It has a population of 1,000. The township was created in 1871. It is the second largest township in Missouri after Jasper County and the third largest in the United States. It covers an area of and includes the town of Sar Coxies, which has a total population of 2,100. It also includes the unincorporated community of Sar Coxie and the city of Jasper, which are both in the north-eastern portion of the township, and the county seat of Joplin, the south-easterly part of Jasper County. It took its name in the early 1900s from the Saroxie community, which was in the southwest part of Missouri, and is now in the northwest part of that county. The name comes from the town's original name, Sar Coxy. It means "sar Coxy" or "sheriff".
