Fenton is a city in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 4,022 at the 2010 census. Fenton is located at 38°3141N 90°2639W (38.527953, -90.444195). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.38 square miles (16.52 km²), of which 6.05 sq miles (15.67 km²) is land and 0.33 sq mi (0.85 km²") is water. The Fenton area has been inhabited for over 900 years. The earliest proof of ancient dwellers was excavated from the "Fenton Mounds", two conical earthen burial mounds located near the southwestern border of Fenton. In 2001, the mounds were leveled, by developer Gary Grewe, for construction of a Walmart Supercenter. William Lindsay Long founded Fenton on March 23, 1818. History

The Fenton area has been inhabited for over 900 years. William Lindsay Long founded the city of Fenton on March 23, 1818. The original eight-square-block area is now referred to as "Old Towne Fenton" The city remained unincorporated for the next 130 years. Garrett Hitzert was the city's first mayor after incorporation in 1948. He conceived of the expansive commercial business and industrial district that is a centerpiece of the city’s fiscal success. The Fenton territory was occupied by Native Americans and early settlers in the 1770s. In 2001, the mounds were leveled, by developer Gary Grewe, for construction of a Walmart Supercenter. The earliest proof of ancient dwellers was excavated from the "Fenton Mounds", two conical earthen burial mounds located near the southwestern border of FENTON. Diagnostic pottery shards from the mound indicate they date from the Mississippian times, A.D. 1050 - 1400. The city is located on the banks of the Meramec River, a tributary of the Missouri River. It has a population of around 3,000 people, with the majority of its residents living in or near the downtown area. Fenton is home to the Fenton High School, which was founded in the late 1800s. The school is one of the oldest in the state, having been founded in 1805. It was the first high school in Fenton.

It is located on the banks of the Red River, which flows into the Mississippi River. The town's population is 2,744, with a population density of 1,857 per square mile (2,737 per km²). Fenton is one of the smallest cities in Michigan, with an area of just over 6 square miles, or 16 km². It was the largest city in Michigan in the early 1900s, when the population was 1,788. The population has since grown to 2,638, or 6.7 million.

About 1.8% of those under age 18 and 3.8%. of those age 65 or over are living below the poverty line, including 0.6% of families and 2.8. of those over the age of 65. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.11. The median age in theCity was 46.7 years, with 25.5%. of residents were under the Age of 18; 6.5%; 19% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 37.3%. were from 45 to 64; and 16.1%. were 65 years of age or older. The gender make-up of the City was 48. 8% male and 51.2% female.

Economy

The former Chrysler North and South assembly plants were located on North Highway Drive in Fenton. The South plant ceased operations in 2008, while the North plant shut down for good in July 2009. In 2013 the site was considered as a possible location for a new stadium for the St. Louis Rams if renovations to the Edward Jones Dome did not materialize. Fenton also contains a large-scale outlet shopping center on both sides of 141 on the border of St Louis and Jefferson County. Retail Technology Group, a major national point-of-sale supplier, is based in the city. The city is home to Joyce Meyer Ministries, which is based just outside the city limits in Jefferson County, just outside of the town of Fenton, Missouri. The town is also home to the University of Missouri-St. Louis, where the football team is based. The university is located on the edge of the city and is one of the largest universities in the state, with more than 4,000 students. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has a training facility in the town, which was built in the early 1900s. The Fenton Police Department is based near the city's central business district, near the intersection of Interstate 44 and Interstate 44. The police department was founded in 1903 and has been around since the early 20th century. It is the oldest police station in the St Louis area, and the second oldest in Missouri. It was the site of the World War II-era St Louis Police Department.

Athletics

The immediate Fenton area is home to some of the most prestigious youth soccer clubs in the nation. The St. Louis Soccer Park abuts the Fenton city limits. Ice hockey is also a popular sport in Fenton. Every year, the Missouri Fall Face-Off NCAA lacrosse competition takes place in the city. The Fenton Forum is home. to the Rockwood Summit Falcons ice hockey team as well as the Affton Americans youth and Tier II ice hockey clubs for many. home games. The Saint Louis FC of the USL Championship play their home games at St.Louis Soccer Park. In 2012, the U 18 team from SLSG played a match against the US Soccer U18 team. Fenton itself isHome to the FENTON Athletic Association. The city is also the home of the Missouri State Lacrosse Association, which hosts the Missouri Face-off NCAA Lacrosse competition every year. The Missouri State lacrosse Association is a non-profit organization based in the town of Fenton, Missouri. It is run by a volunteer board of directors. The association was founded by former Fenton High School student-athlete and current Fenton City Council member, Mark Schulder. The organization was founded in the early 1990s to help support local youth lacrosse teams. The club has since grown to become one of the largest lacrosse organizations in the state. The sport is a popular pastime for Fenton residents. The town is also home to a number of youth sports teams.

Parks

Fenton is called the "City of Parks" owing to its extensive park and recreation system. The City has seven fully developed parks on 350-plus acres. The parks include: Fenton City Park, Bud Weil Memorial Park, Fenton Meramec Greenway, Olde Towne Plaza Riverside Park, Valiant Park, and Westside Park. Plans are being developed for the former Fabick property in the heart of the City. These plans include trails and some passive uses. In the spring of 2004 the Mayor of Fenton, Dennis J. Hancock, and the members of the Park Board (Board Chair Glen Scholle and members Jeff Bodi, Charles Jahneke, Mike Lucas, Steve Covault, Gregg Cleveland, Diana Biras and Nannette Clark) determined that their city should build a memorial to the victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. It was also determined that the memorial would honor police, firefighters, EMS personnel, and all veterans. The memorial was dedicated on September 14, 2004. It is located at the corner of Main and Main streets in Fenton and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. It will be the first memorial of its kind in the United States and will be located on the former site of the Fabick building in the City's downtown area. The Memorial will be dedicated to the fallen firefighters, paramedics, and EMS personnel of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In addition to the memorial, the City has plans to build a park for the city's veterans.

Education

The City of Fenton is served by the Rockwood, Northwest, and Lindbergh school districts. Rockwood Summit High School is the primary high school for area students. The Meramec Valley Branch of the St. Louis County Library system is in Fenton, although a new, larger facility is open just outside the city limits. One private school, St. Paul Catholic School, is located in the city. Two others, Our Savior Lutheran School and Heritage Classical Christian Academy, are located adjacent to the city Limits. The city is home to the Fenton High School football team, which has won several state championships. The Fenton Police Department has won two state championships and one Missouri state championship. Fenton has one of the highest crime rates in the state, with more than 30 murders per 100,000 residents in 2010. The town has a population of 3,000. It is located on the Missouri River, which runs through the center of the city, and the Missouri Turnpike, which cuts through the city to the north and the south. It also has a lake, which is the city's main source of water supply, and a river, which flows through the town to the Mississippi River and the Illinois River. It has a small airport, which was built in the 1950s. It was the first airport in the U.S. to be built in this area. It opened in 1961. The St.Louis County Public Library system has a branch in the town, which opened in 1973.
