Locust Grove is a city in Henry County, Georgia, United States. The population was 5,402 at the 2010 census, up from 2,322 in 2000. Some unincorporated communities such as Luella and many rural areas surround Locust Grove. The community was named for a grove of locust trees near the original town site. In 1900 the population of the city was 254 and is now over 5,000. The city has a total area of 10.8 square miles (28.1 km²), of which 10.7 sq miles (27.6 km²) are land and 0.2sq miles (0.5 km²)" is water" The city is home to the Tanger Outlet Center, a rehabilitation facility for non-profit businesses. The town is located in southern Henry County at 33°2044N 84°618W (33.345499, -84.104991). U.S. Route 23 passes through the center of town, leading north 7 miles (11 km) to McDonough, the county seat. I-75 leads northwest 36 miles (58km) to downtown Atlanta and southeast 49 miles (79 km) from the city to Macon. In 2000, there were 817 households, out of which 41.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.9% were married couples living together, 15.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.0% were non-families.
History
The community was named for a grove of locust trees near the original town site. Georgia General Assembly incorporated Locust Grove in 1893. The community is located on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. The town was founded in 1881 and named for the locust tree grove. It was incorporated as a town in 1893 and is located near the Chattooga River. It has a population of about 2,000 people, most of whom live in the town of about 1,000 residents. It is located in the county of Chattoochee, Georgia, about 30 miles south of Atlanta. The city's population is about 1.5 million people, about half of whom are African-American. Its population was 2,500 in 1891. It grew to 3,000 in 1894. It now has a total population of around 2,200 people, or 1.6 percent of the city's total population. It lies on the Chattoi River, which runs through the center of the town, and is about 10 miles from the original site of the community. The village has a history of being named after locusts, which were common in the area at the time of its founding. It also has a name for a nearby lake, which was named after a locust grove, which is also near the town site, and was later named after the town. It became a city in 1892 and was incorporated in 1893; it is now a suburb of Athens, Georgia.

Interstate 75 passes through western portion of Locust Grove, with access from Exit 212 (Bill Gardner Parkway) I-75 leads northwest 36 miles (58km) to downtown Atlanta and southeast 49 miles (79 km)to Macon. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.8 square miles (28.1 km²) The unincorporated community of Luella, located 5 miles (8 km) west of the city, uses a "LocustGrove" mailing address. The city is located on Georgia State Route 42, which runs north-south from downtown Atlanta to Macon and south-east from downtown Macon to Jackson. It is also on State Route 401, which leads north-northwest to Jackson and southeast to Jackson, and north-northeast to Mc donough. It has a population of 1.2 million (1.7 million in 2010 Census figures). It is located at 33.2 square miles, or 1.67 km², with 10.7 square miles of land (27.6 km²), and 0.2square miles (0.5km²) of water.

Attractions
Tanger Outlet Center opened for business in the fall of 1994. It is home to Coach, J.Crew, Jones New York, Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, Pac Sun, Polo Ralph Lauren, Reebok, Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica, Aeropostale, Jockey, Eddie Bauer, Nike and more. Locust Grove is also home to Noah's Ark, a non-profit preserve and rehabilitation facility home to more than 1,000 animals. A group home sharing the site was previously licensed by the state of Georgia to provide residential care for up to 24 children but has since closed. It's equipped with a scanner radio that allows visitors to listen in to the local railroad frequency, which broadcasts out of the local defect detector in nearby Jenkinsburg. It has a platform for watching the Norfolk Southern line that runs parallel to State Route 42/US Highway 23, which is also known as the "Railroad to the Stars" It's also the site of the Georgia Museum of Natural History, which houses the state's oldest public art collection, the Georgia National Guard Museum, which dates back to the 17th century. It also has a museum of Americana, which includes the Georgia State Capitol, which was built in the early 1800s. The museum is located on the former site of an 18th century cotton gin, which has since been converted into a museum. It was also the home of the National Museum of American Art, which still stands today.
