Mount Olive is a town in Duplin and Wayne counties in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The population was 4,589 at the 2010 census. The town is home to the Mt. Olive Pickle Company and the University of Mount Olive. Between 2010 and 2012, as many as 3,000 Haitians, from toddlers to grandmothers, have settled in Mount Olive and around the town. The new wave of Haitians in Eastern North Carolina is the classic "dirty, difficult, and dangerous" labor story, says a business professor at University of Chapel Hill. The pickle festival is held the last weekend of April each year on the corner of Cucumber and Vine Streets in the town's downtown area. The Pickle Festival is held on the last Sunday of April every year, and is held in the same place as the Pickle and Vine Festival, which is held each year in the city of Goldsboro, North Carolina, on the other side of the Cucumbia River. Pickles

The North Carolina Pickle Festival is held the last full weekend of April each year. The annual celebration is put on by both the community of Mount Olive and the Mt. Olive Pickle Company. On New Year's Eve, the company drops a three-foot pickle down a flagpole into a pickle tank. The drop takes place at 7 p.m. local time, instead of midnight local time. The event first took place on New year's Eve 1999. The company was established in 1926 and is located on the corner of Cucumber and Vine streets in Mount Olive, North Carolina. The pickle company is still in business today and sells its products in North Carolina and Virginia.
