Olyphant is a borough in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is six miles (10 km) northeast of downtown Scranton. Its main source of employment was the mining and shipping of coal. Until 2018, the biggest industry was Cinram the manufacture of compact discs (CD) and digital video discs (DVD). The population was 5,395 at the 2020 census. The borough has a total area of 5.5 square miles (14 km²), of which 5.4 square miles is land and 0.1 sq mi (0.26 km²) (1.82%) is water. Olyphant experienced a severe downturn in the 1950s. There was once a thriving garment industry with numerous dress factories in the downtown area. There is a single elementary school, a single secondary school, and a single parochial school on Underwood Road in the Underwood Village section of the borough. In 1969, the Olyphant, Dickson City, and Throop school districts consolidated to form the Mid-Valley School District. On February 10, 1977, the Pennsylvania Labor and Industry Department of the Pennsylvania condemned the senior high school from the senior school annex of the OLYphant Junior High School. Currently, the district has a single high school, an elementary school and a parched elementary school. The high school students displaced by the closure of the high school moved to the junior high school annex. The elementary and elementary school students moved to a single school on Throop Road.

The borough is part of the New Jersey Bay Area, which includes the city of Scranton and the borough of Lehigh County. Olyphant has a population of 2,816. The city's population was 2,917 at the 2010 Census. The town's population has declined to 2,715. It is the most populous borough in New Jersey. The Borough has a history dating back to the 18th century. It was the site of the Battle of the Bulge, which took place in 1805. It has been the scene of numerous battles, including one in which the town's residents fought off a German invasion in 1808. The Battle of Olyphant was fought off by a group of German soldiers in 1809. The battle was the first of the Second World War, which ended in 1814. The current borough is named after the town of Olphant, which was founded in 1812. The first borough to be founded in the area was Olphphant, which is located in the borough's eastern part.

It was the site of the U.S. Civil War and the Battle of the Bulge.

As the population declined, the neighborhood schools were closed and demolished. In 1969, the Olyphant, Dickson City, and Throop school districts consolidated to form the Mid Valley School District. Currently, the Mid-Valley School District has a single elementary school, and a single secondary school on Underwood Road in Throop. There are private Catholic schools in neighboring municipalities. High school students can attend Bishop O'Hara High School in Dunmore and Scranton Preparatory School inScranton. The La Salle Academy Primary Campus is for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 3; the Main Campus in Jessup is forStudents in Grades 4 through 8. The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry condemned the OLYphant Elementary School and the annex on February 10, 1977. The displaced elementary school students were moved to the Mid.Valley Junior High School. The annex of the Olysphant Elementary school had elementary school grades as well as some overflow classes from the senior high school. The high school students attended classes in the senior. high school on split sessions. The school district has one elementary school and one secondary school. There is a single Catholic parochial school in each of the three municipalities: St. Patrick's, St. Michael's, and Holy Ghost. Saints Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic School remained open longer, but it was eventually closed. The district also has a private Catholic school, LaSalle Academy, for pre- kindergarten through grade 3.
