Ridgway is a borough in and the county seat of Elk County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 4,078. It is located in central Elk County at 41°2529N 78°4347W (41.424739, -78.729733) The borough is in the valley of the Clarion River, where it is joined from the east by Elk Creek. U.S. Route 219 passes through the borough center, leading north 44 miles (71 km) to Bradford and south 28 miles (45km) to DuBois. In 1900, the people living here numbered 3,515; in 1910, 5,408; in 1940, 6,253, and in 2010, 4,78. The O.B. Grant House and Ridgway Armory are also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In the past, the industrial interests were manufacturing leather, iron, clay, and lumber products, silk goods, railroad snow plows, dynamos, and machine tools. It is located in Elk County, Pennsylvania, near Elk Creek and the Clarion River, a tributary of the Allegheny River. It has a population of about 4,000, with many historic structures located within the boundaries of the Rid gway Historic District. It was added to the National register of historic places in 2003. The city is located on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, which runs through the town of Elk County. The Turnpikes were built in the early 19th century as part of a larger land purchase, which became Elk County in the late 1800s. The turnpike was built on the site of a former mill, which was abandoned in the mid-19th century, and now serves as the town's main highway.

Art and culture
The Ridgway Heritage Council hosts the Tasting in the Wilds Festival. The Elk County Council on the Arts (ECCOTA) has been serving the area with art experiences, and resources since 1984. ECCOTA operates a sales gallery with artwork of all mediums from local artists. In the summer, the town hosts a Chainsaw Carving Rendezvous, which is the largest chainsaw carving event in the state. The event is free and open to the public, but donations are welcome.
Recreation
There are plenty of opportunities for day trips and overnight camping in the area. The area is known for its hiking, camping and horseback riding. There are also a number of tourist attractions, such as the Grand Canyon and the Great Falls of the Mississippi River, which are just a few miles from the town of Doylestown. The town is also home to a large number of historic buildings, including the Stonewall Inn, which dates back to the 17th century, and the First National Bank of New Jersey, which was founded in 1858. The community is also known as the "Town of the Great Lakes" because of its location on the banks of the Little Canada River. It is the only town in the region that has a river running through the center of the town, and it's the only one with a large amount of hiking and camping opportunities. The city also has a lot of history, with the oldest part of the city being the town's oldest section, which is known as "The Town of the Big Lakes" The town also has its own version of the "Great Lakes" which was built in the 19th century. It was the first town to be built on the site of the first Great Lakes, and is now the largest city in the U.S., with a population of more than 2 million people. It also has one of the largest parks in the world, which can be reached by foot or by car, and has a large area of land for hiking and biking.

Ridgway houses two school systems in the borough and township. The Ridgway Area School District has an elementary and a middle/high school building. St. Leo's Catholic School has two buildings, a building for kindergarten students, and a main building, for children in grades 1-8. After completing 8th grade, students have the choice to transfer to public school (see above) or toTransfer to Elk County Catholic High School, in St. Marys. The athletic team is known as the Elkers, a reference to RidGway as the Elk County seat. The school system is funded by the state of New Jersey and the federal government. The district is made up of the borough, the township, and the city of Elk County, New Jersey. It has a population of about 3,000 people, with about 1,000 residents living in the Borough and 1,200 in the Township. It is located in Elk County's central business district, which includes the town of Elk, the borough's largest city, and parts of the towns of Elizabethtown, Elizabethtown and Mount Airy.
