The borough houses the world headquarters of CNBC (NBCUniversal) and the North American headquarters of South Korean conglomerate LG Corp. It was formed in 1895, having seceded from Englewood Township. In 2012, the borough was ranked 129th in the nation, and fifth in New Jersey, on the list of most expensive ZIP Codes in the United States by Forbes magazine, with a median home price of $1,439,115. The 2010 United States census counted 5,281 people, 1,824 households, and 1,527 families in the borough.Korean Americans accounted for 20.3% of the borough's population in 2010. Maserati announced it was moving its U.S. headquarters to the former Walter P. Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills, Michigan, in 2017. CNBC, Unilever North America, and LG North American are all headquartered in the borough. The borough is home to the New Jersey Museum of Nature and Science, which was founded in 1872. The museum is located on the former site of the former New Jersey State Capitol. The New Jersey Maritime Museum is also located in the town. The town's name is derived from the Montclair, New Jersey-based Montclair Maritime Company, which founded in the late 19th century. The city's name was first used in the early 19th Century as the site of a shipyard. It was later used as the name of a ferry line, and later as a ferry terminus. Emergency services
The borough had been served by the Englewood Cliffs Volunteer Ambulance Corps. ECVAC maintained three vehicles, two Ford Type-III ambulances and a Chevy Tahoe SUV and responded to an average of over 300 medical emergencies each year. It was disbanded in August 2012 due to a lack of volunteers. The contract was replaced by a contract with the borough's hospital. The borough's mayor and council are responsible for providing emergency services to residents of the borough. The hospital is responsible for caring for the sick and injured. It is a joint venture between the borough and the hospital. It provides emergency services from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM on weekdays and 24/7 on weekends. It also provides emergency medical services from 6:30 AM to 9:30 PM on weekends and holidays. It has a 24-hour emergency response center in place of the volunteer ambulance service. The ambulance service has been replaced by the hospital's Emergency Medical Services Unit (EMS) since August 2012. The EMS unit is staffed by trained and certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) who are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The service is funded by donations from the public. It operates under the terms of an agreement between the Borough and the Hospital and Medical Center. It offers emergency medical care to residents in the borough, as well as a variety of other services such as food, shelter, shelter and medical care. The Englewood Cliffs Public Schools serves children in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. After a 47-year-long relationship with Engle Wood Public Library under which the borough paid $225,000 to allow borough residents to use the city's library, the borough started negotiations in 2016 with other municipalities to pay for privileges elsewhere. Saint Peter's University has a campus in the borough. The college's nursing program for registered nurses is also located at the campus. Previously, the campus had been home to EngleWood Cliffs College, which closed in 1974. The campus is home to evening and weekend classes for Associate's, Bachelor's, and graduate degrees, and a nursing program.
Transportation
As of May 2010, the borough had a total of 35.16 miles (56.58 km) of roadways. U.S. Route 9W and the Palisades Interstate Parkway both run alongside each other for about 2.8 miles (4.5 km) along the Hudson River. County Route 505 travels through the borough from Fort Lee in the south to Englewood in the east. Rockland Coaches provides service along Route 9w to the Port Authority Bus Terminal on the 9T / 9AT routes and to the George Washington Bridge Bus Terminal.NJ Transit bus route 156 serves the Port authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan and the 186 terminates at the GeorgeWashington Bridge Bus terminal. The borough is located on the New Jersey Turnpike, which runs from Long Island to New York City and the East River to Long Island. It is the only borough in New Jersey that is not part of the New York and New Jersey rail system. The New Jersey Department of Transportation has a contract with the borough to provide bus service along the Turnpikes. It also provides bus service on the West Side of Manhattan and on the East Side of New York. The Borough has a population of 2.3 million (2.4 million in 2010).
