In 1942 a portion of Lake Jackson was first developed as a company town for workers of the Dow Chemical Company. The city was incorporated March 14, 1944, and voted for home rule ten years later in 1954. As of the 2020 U.S. census, there were 28,177 people, 10,074 households, and 7,028 families residing in the city. Lake Jackson is located in south-central Brazoria County, and is bordered to the east by the cities of Clute and Richwood, and to the southwest by the Brazos River. Texas State Highway 288, the Nolan Ryan Expressway, runs through the city, leading 10 miles (16 km) north to Angleton, the county seat, 52 miles (84 km) east to downtown Houston, and 9 miles (14 km) southeast to Freeport on the Gulf of Mexico. According to the United States Census Bureau, Lake Jackson has a total area of 20.9 square miles (54.2 km²), of which 19.5 square miles. (50.4 km²) is land and 1.5 sq miles (3.9 km²),"Lake Jackson" is the name of a lake in Lake Jackson, Texas, which was named after a former planter who lived at the lake. History

The City of Lake Jackson was incorporated March 14, 1944, and voted for home rule ten years later in 1954. The city was built in the early 1940s as a planned community, designed by Alden B. Dow of Midland, Michigan for workers in support of a new plant of the Dow Chemical Company, which his father owned. Lake Jackson is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, near the Finger Lakes region of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. It is located on the Michigan Turnpike, which was once part of the Michigan State Highway System, and was once known as the "Michigan Highway System" The city has a population of about 2,000, with the majority of its residents living in the Lake Jackson area. It was incorporated in 1944 and has been home to a city council since 1954, when it was granted home rule by the Michigan Supreme Court. It also has a city manager, who was elected to a second term in 1954, and a mayor, who died in office in 1986. The City of Jackson was named for Alden Dow, who owned a chemical company in the area.

Geography

The city of Lake Jackson is located in south-central Brazoria County, Texas. Texas State Highway 288, the Nolan Ryan Expressway, runs through the city. Lake Jackson has a total area of 20.9 square miles (54.2 km²), of which 19.5 sq mi (50.4 km²) is land and 1.5sq mi (3.9 sq mi) is water. The city is bordered to the east by the cities of Clute and Richwood, and to the southwest by the Brazos River. It is located 52 miles (84 km) north to downtown Houston, and 9 miles (14 km) southeast to Freeport on the Gulf of Mexico. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that the city has a population of 2,715. The population of LakeJackson was 2,816 in the 2010 United States Census, up from 2,638 in the 1990s. The town is located on the Brazoria River, which flows through the center of the city, and into the Texas River System. The Brazoria River is a tributary of the Brazos River, and flows into the Gulf of Mississippi and the Bossier River. The B Brazos River, which also runs through Lake Jackson, is a major waterway in the state. The Lake Jackson area is known as one of the most scenic places in Texas, with many scenic overlooks.

As of the 2020 U.S. census, there were 28,177 people, 10,074 households, and 7,028 families residing in the city. The racial makeup of the city was 84.36% White, 5.10% African American, 0.52% Native American, 3.14% Asian, 4.44% from other races, and 2.40% from two or more races. The average household size was 2.74 and the average family size was 3.18. The city's median income was $60,901, and the median income for a family was $69,053. Arts and culture

The Lake Jackson Library is a part of the Brazoria County Library System. It is located in Lake Jackson, Texas. The library is open to the public on weekdays and weekends. It is also the home of the Texas Rangers football team, which was founded in 1988. The Lake Jackson High School football team won the Texas state championship in 2007. The team was coached by former Texas Rangers coach and current Texas Rangers head coach Rick Perry. The school is located on the campus of Alvin Community College, in Alvin, Texas. It was recently upgraded to offer a b accredited degree in some technical fields, and is also distinguished for its professional music Hall, the Clarion. The high school is in Clute, Texas, and has a enrollment of 912 students. It has a football team that has won the state championship three times in the last five years. The football team is known as the "Brazoswood Bombers" and is based at Brazoswood High School, which is also in the Clute area of Texas.
