As of the 2010 census, the borough was 30.7% non-Hispanic White, 8.9% Black or African American, 1.4% Native American, 0.8% Asian, and 2.08% from two or more races. 59.0% of the population were of Hispanic or Latino ancestry. St. Rocco Church is the first National Hispanic Parish established by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The church was established in 2011 to serve the needs of the large Spanish-speaking Catholic Latino community in the area. The borough has a total area of 0.5 square miles (1.3 km²) Mark Sullivan (1874-1952) was born on a farm just outside Avondale and returned to live on that same farm in his later years. The town is located on Pennsylvania Route 41 just south of U.S. Route 1. The community is on the East Branch White Clay Creek. The population was 1,108 at the time of the 2000 census, and is expected to be 1,272 at the 2020 census. St. Rocco Church in Avondale is the first National Hispanic Parish established by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The current owner of the factory is the son of former General Motors executive John G. G. "Jack" Gant. Gant, who died in a car accident in 2007, was the son-in-law of former President Ronald Reagan. The family has been married for more than 50 years. The couple have three children. They also have a son, Michael, who was born in 1998. The father-inlaw is a former U.S. Air Force pilot who served in the Gulf War. The mother-and-son team were married in 2002 and 2003. The son and the daughter- in-law have been married since 2007 and 2009, respectively. They have two children, a boy and a girl, who were born in 2008 and 2009. The parents-in law live in a house that was built in the 1970s. The children live in an apartment complex on the second floor.
