Brunswick (or) is the largest city in Medina County, Ohio, United States approximately 20 mi (32 km) SW of Cleveland. The population was 34,255 at the 2010 census and estimated at 34,880 as of 2019. The unincorporated place called Brunswick was founded on January 1, 1815, and was named randomly in a naming contest. It was incorporated as a village on February 1, 1960, and as a city on October 2, 1960. On June 23, 2014 a tornado hit Brunswick, and the tornado was rated a high-end EF1 or EF2. The city is located at 41°1439N 81°4942W (41.244051, -81.828360).According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 12.96 square miles (33.57 km²), of which 12.92 square miles of land and 0.04 sq miles (0.10 km²) is water. In the 2000 census there were 33,388 people, 11,883 households, and 9,280 families living in the city. The racial makeup of the city was 95.5% White, 1.2% African American, 0.1% Native American, 1.6% Asian, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.3%.Of the 12,967 households 36.2%. had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.3. were married couples living together, 10.6%. had a female householder with no husband present, 4.9% had a male householder. with no wife present, and 26.2. were non-families.

History

The unincorporated place called Brunswick was founded on January 1, 1815, and was named randomly in a naming contest. It was incorporated as a village on February 1, 1960, and as a city on October 2, 1960. On June 23, 2014 a tornado hit Brunswick, and the tornado was rated a high-end EF1 or EF2. The city of Brunswick is located on the Ohio River, which was once known as the Ohio Turnpike. It has a population of about 2,000 people, and is home to the Brunswick High School, a public high school, and a community center. It is also the location of the Brunswick International Airport, which opened in 1815. The airport was the site of a World War II-era air raid, which killed more than 1,200 people and injured more than 3,000 others. It also hosted the opening ceremony of the U.S. Olympic Games in 1968, and hosted the Winter Olympics in 1968. The U.N. World Cup was held in Brunswick in 1968 and 1969. The Winter Olympics were held in 1988 and 1988, and were the first Winter Games to be held in the Winter Games region of the United States. The first Winter Olympics took place in Vancouver, Canada, in 1988. The last Winter Games were in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2010. The tournament was the first to be hosted by the city since it became a city in 1964. The town's name was first used in the 17th century.

The city is home to the Brunswick High School, a public high school, and the Brunswick Institute of Art and Design, a private art school. The school is located in the town of Brunswick, which was founded in 1858. The town's motto is "The City of Brotherly Love" and the city's colors are red, white, and blue. It is also known as the "City of the Rising Sun" because of its distinctive red-and-white colors. It was named after the town's founder, William Brunswick, who was born in the area in 1838. The current mayor of the city is Robert L. "Bob" Linn, a former mayor of Brunswick. He was elected to a second term in 2010. The City of Brunswick is also the home of the University of New Hampshire, where he was a member of the Board of Trustees until his death in 2012. It has a population of 2,816. It has a population of about 34,000, with 13,600 housing units, and a population density of 2,651.3 inhabitants per square mile (1,023.7/km²) The city's population was 97.09% White, 0.74% African American, 0.13% Native American,0.86% Asian, 0,02% Pacific Islander, and 0.78% from two or more races.
