Castalia

Castalia is located in western Erie County at 41°2359N 82°4826W (41.399805, -82.807176) The population was 852 at the 2010 census, down from 935 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Sandusky, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area. By 1738 there was a Wyandot settlement at what is now Castalia under the leadership of Nicholas Orontony. Due to growing disputes with the French and closer trade relations with Pennsylvania-based merchants, the Wyandots burned their village and relocated to the mouth of the Cuyahoga River in what is today Cleveland in 1748. Castalia was laid out in 1836. The village was named after Castalia, a figure in Greek mythology. In the village, the population was spread out with 27.2% under the age of 18, 28.7% from 18 to 24, 23.4% from 25 to 44, and 13.6% from 45 to 64. The median age in the village was 40.5 years. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was2.97. The gender makeup of the village is 49.1% male and 50.9% female. History

Castalia was laid out in 1836. It was named after Castalia, a figure in Greek mythology. It is located at the mouth of the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland, Ohio. The city was founded in 1738 by the Wyandot family, who moved there after a dispute with the French. The name Castalia comes from the word "cast" which means "castle" or "castle", and "alia" is the name of a town in the region. The word Castalia is also used to refer to the town of Castalia in Italy, where it was first established in 1736. The town's name is derived from the city's name, Castalia. It means "Castalia" in Italian, which is the same as "Castle" in the U.S. and "Cleveland" in English. Points of interest

Castalia Pond is a spring-fed pond that never freezes. Cold Creek Festival is held the third weekend in July on Main Street in Castalia. Castalia is in the Margaretta Township school system. Green and white are the school's colors. The mascot is the polar bear. For many years it was open to the public, but since 1990 it has not been open to visitors.

Notable person

Carrie Chase Davis (1863-1953) was a physician and suffragist. She was a member of the American Woman Suffrage Party. She died in 1953 at the age of 67. She is remembered as one of the first female doctors in the U.S. to practice in New York City. She had a daughter, Carrie Chase Davis, who was born in 1863. She also had a son, David Davis, born in 1863. She later became a prominent physician and philanthropist in the New York area.
