Wellsville was platted in 1856, and named after Charles Wells who was the original owner of the land. A post office called Wellsville has been in operation since 1857. Wellsville is located at 39°426N 91°345W (39.073782, -91.568006). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.54 square miles (3.99 km²), all land. The population was 998 at the 2020 census, and is expected to rise to 1,200 by the end of the decade. The median income for a household in the city was $27,260, and the median family income was $18,917. The city is administered by Wellsville-Middletown R-I-letown School District, which has a lending library, and a public school. The school district also operates the Wellsville Public Library, which is located in the town of Sanborn, Missouri. The library has a free lending library that is open to the public every day of the year. It is located on the campus of the University of Missouri-St. Louis, which also has a public library. History

Wellsville was platted in 1856, and named after Charles Wells who was the original owner of the land. A post office called Wellsville has been in operation since 1857. The town has a population of about 1,000 people. It is located on the banks of the Ohio River. It was named for Charles Wells, who was originally the land owner. The community is located near the Ohio and Ohio Turnpike. It also has a number of small lakes and rivers in the area, which are named for the original owners, Charles Wells and his wife, Mary.
