West Point is a city in Clay County, Mississippi, in the Golden Triangle region of the state. It is the county seat of Clay County and the principal city of the West Point Micropolitan Statistical Area. The city has a rich heritage, with generations of family lineage calling it home. West Point was the home of the original Blazon-Flexible Flyer, proclaimed to make the best snow sled in the United States, which became an American tradition in the 1990s. The Old Waverly Golf Club, located outside of West Point and recognized as one of Mississippi's top golf courses, hosted the 1999 U.S. Women's Open, won by Juli Inkster. The West Point Country Club is three minutes from downtown West Point, and offers 18 rounds of golf, tennis and a club house. About 1,500 airfield pilots were trained there from 1918 to 1920, and it is recognized as the first airfield in the state of Mississippi to average less than less than 1,000 inches of snow a year. The population was 11,307 at the 2010 census, and is expected to rise to 10,105 at the 2020 census. The area has a total area of 21.1 square miles (55 km²), of which 20.8 sq miles (54 km²) is land and 0.3sq miles (0.78 km²") is water. The city is home to the University of New Mexico's football team, the New Mexico Stars, and the Albuquerque N.C. State University football team. The U.N. Women's team is based in the city and has a national championship in the Women's Division. The New Mexico State University women's team has a National Championship in the Men's Division, as well as a World Championship in Women's Basketball. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Women's Football Team has a World Championships in the women's division and the UNA Women's Championship in men's basketball. The City of Laredo, Texas, has a Women's Championships in Men's Basketball and Women's Soccer. The Women's National Basketball Association has a Men's Championship team in the men's division. The men's Basketball League of the United States has a tournament in the summer of each year. The women's basketball tournament is held in the fall. The town has a population of 2,000 people (2,000 in 2010) and the Women’s Basketball Tournament is in the spring. It is the only city in the state to have a city-level high school football program. It also has a women's high school program, which opened in 2010.

Payne Field was an advanced aviation school operated from May 1918 to March 1920. Waverly Plantation Mansion, eight miles east of West Point, is a National Historic Landmark. West Point is the home of the Howlin' Wolf Blues Museum. Each Labor Day weekend, West Point hosts the Prairie Arts Festival. The festival showcases the areas arts and crafts with shopping, music, rides for children, a 5K race and a car show. The museum is open daily for tours from 9 am to 5 pm, an admission fee is charged. The mansion's four-story cantilevered stair hall and cupola are considered unique in the United States, and are open to the public for tours. The West Point Green Wave football team has won the state championship for their classification 11 times, in 1982, 1987, 1988, 1989, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. West Point High School is the town's lone public high school. Oak Hill Academy is a private PK-12 school that was founded in 1966 as a segregation academy for white students. Hebron Christian School is a tuition-based private school. The West Point Consolidated School District provides public education in the city of West Point. The city is home to three high schools: West Point, Oak Hill, and Hebron. The town's high school is the largest of the three and offers a diverse classroom environment. It is also the only high school in the area with more than 1,000 students. The school district also provides free and reduced-price lunches to students who live in the town.
