Le Center is a city in Le Sueur County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 2,517 at the 2020 census. It is located 26 miles from Mankato and 62 miles from Minneapolis. Minnesota State Highways 99 and 112 are two of the main routes in the community. Le Center has a humid continental climate (Köppen Dfa). Summers are warm and humid, while winters are cold and snowy. The city has a total area of 1.51 square miles (3.91 km²), all of which is land. The county seat is in Le Center and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2010, there were 2,499 people, 915 households, and 629 families residing in the city. Minnesota State Highways 99 and 112 are two of the main routes in the community. The city is located on the banks of the Red River, which flows through the center of the city. The Red River is a tributary of the Little Red River that flows through Le Center. Le Center was founded in the 18th century as a center for the mining of copper and other minerals. It was named after the town of Le Center, Minnesota, which is located in the town's eastern part. The town's name is derived from the name "Le Center", which means "the center" or "the place" in German. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates the city's population at 1,071 in 2010.
