Upton is a town in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. It was first settled in 1728. The population was given as exactly 8,000 at the 2020 census. The Northwest part of Upton, including the area surrounding Warren Brook, have become known as Forest Green by locals due to the lush rolling hills that can be seen from Fowler Street and Mechanic Street. William Knowlton founded what was to become the world's largest women's hat factory in 1872. The town is home to a number of members of the Taft family, including an American Revolutionary War soldier named Samuel Taft, who was born there. Three-term mayor of Worcester, historian Judge Henry Chapin was born here on May 13, 1811. The Upton Fire Department was incorporated at Town Meeting on April 9, 1839, and has served Upton and its residents faithfully for 175 years. History
Upton was originally the home of the Nipmuc, who inhabited most of central Massachusetts. Residents in outlying areas of surrounding towns were finding it difficult to fulfil the obligation to attend church every Sunday, so they petitioned the state for creation of a new town central to their homes. In 1735 Upton was incorporated, taking land from Hopkinton, Mendon, Uxbridge, and Sutton. Samuel Taft had 22 children and hosted President George Washington on his inaugural tour of New England in 1789. Three-term mayor of Worcester, historian Judge Henry Chapin was born here on May 13, 1811. Between 1730 and 1850, Upton had many small shoe shops, called tenfooters. By 1837, Upton produced 21.7% of the boots made in Worcester County. William Knowlton founded what was to become the world's largest women's hat factory in 1872. The Upton Fire Department was incorporated at Town Meeting on April 9, 1839, and has served Upton and its residents faithfully for 175 years. In 2018, the town began the process of redeveloping its downtown area. This is expected to be a decade-long project involving a public-private partnership and anchored by a new community center. It will be the first time the town has been redeveloped in more than 50 years. It is expected that it will be completed by the end of the 20th century. The U.S. Census Bureau recorded the town's population as 2,716 in 2010. The population of Upton in 2010 was 2,638. The United States Census Bureau reported the town had a total population of 3,715. The state's population at the time of the 2010 Census was 3,813. The county seat is Upton, New Hampshire. It is located on the New Hampshire Turnpike, which runs through the town. It has an elevation of 1,814 feet (406 meters) and a population in the city of Upton of 4,717. The city's population in 2010 reached 2,917. It had a population density of 1.738. It also has a surface area of 21.7 square miles (56 km²) (1.5 sq mi) of which 1.8 square miles (3.4 km) is land and 1.3 square kilometers (2.2 sq miles) is sea-level.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 5,642 people, 2,042 households, and 1,562 families residing in the town. By the 2020 census, the population had reached 8,000. The racial makeup of the town was 86.6% White, 0.8% Black, 0% American Indian/Alaska Native, 4.2% Asian and 0.7% Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.5% of the population. The median income for a household in the city was $88,595, and $109,251 for a family. The per capita income was $43,924. About 4.1% of those under the age of 18 and 4.7%. of those age 65 or over were living below the poverty line. The town is located on the U.S. Census Bureau's American West Coast. It is the only town in the state of Washington that is not on the National Register of Historic Places. It was once the site of the state’s first post office, which was established in 1881. It has since been closed and replaced by a new post office. The U.N. World Heritage Site is located in the center of the city, and was built in the early 1900s. The site is now home to the National Museum of American History and Culture, which is dedicated to the memory of President Theodore Roosevelt. It also houses a National Park Service museum, which dates back to the 1800s.

The Upton Town Library was founded in March 1871. The library is located in Upton, New Hampshire. It is located on the former site of the Upton School. The Upton School was built in the early 19th century. It was the first school in Upton to be built on a school site. The school was built on the site of a former school. It dates back to 1871 when the town was first established.
Education
Memorial Elementary School and Nipmuc Regional High School are part of the public school system of the Mendon-Upton Regional School District. Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School is a trade school open to the surrounding towns. The school district also has a number of private schools in the area. The district has a total of 12 schools, including two charter schools. The schools are located in the town of Mendon, in the northern part of Nevada, and in the city of Upton, in southern Nevada. They are located on the north side of the town, and the south side is on the east side. The town has a population of about 2,000, with the majority of its residents living in Mendon and the nearby towns of Upton. The public school district has more than 1,000 students. It also has two private schools, one of which is located in Upton, and one in the nearby town of NipMuc. The regional school system also has several private schools. It has one trade school, which is open to all of the towns in the region. It is also open to students from outside of the district, as well as to the neighboring towns of Compton and Puyallup. It was founded in the early 1900s. The first public school in the district was opened in 1903. The current school was built in the mid-20th century. The Mendon school district was established in the late 1950s. In the early 1960s, the district added a second school, Memorial Elementary School.
Government
There are three selectmen elected to three-year terms, and an appointed town manager. The town is governed by an open Town Meeting. There are no elected or appointed city council members. There is no mayor or city council member. The mayor is a member of the town's Board of Selectmen. The council is made up of three members, and the town manager is the mayor's appointee.
