Brentwood is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The town was originally incorporated in 1922 and is named after the Brentwood estate built in 1817 by Robert Brent in Northeast Washington, DC. Brentwood is located just outside the northeast boundary of the District of Columbia and surrounded by the communities of Mount Rainier, Cottage City, North Brentwood, and the nearby Hyattsville. The municipality of Brentwood has a total area of 038 square miles (0.98 km²) According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a population of 3,828. In the 2010 census, there were 933 households and 624 families residing in the town. The population density was 8015 people per square mile (3,046/2km). There were 1,046 housing units at Brentwood in 2010, as of the census of 2010, 3,046 people were living there in 2010 census. The majority of homes in Brentwood were built during and after World War II; young people coming to Washington, D.C., to support the war effort found a quiet place to raise their families. A focal point is Bartlett Park named for Captain Bartlett who deeded the land to the town, which is home to the Wohlfarth Building, which serves as the Town Hall. In 2010 census there were 3,054 people living in the city, as well as 624 people in the surrounding area.
History
Brentwood is the primary city name, but also Colmar Manor, Cottage City, N Brentwood, North Brentwood are acceptable city names or spellings, Brentwd on the other hand no longer accepted or obsolete and are no longer used as a designation. The official name is Brentwood, Maryland. Brentwood was originally incorporated in 1922 and is named after the Brentwood estate built in 1817 by Robert Brent in Northeast Washington, DC. The town was developed beginning in the 1890s around the Highland Station of the Washington Branch of the B & O Railroad and the Columbia and Maryland Railway. Brentwood was created by Wallace A. Bartlett, a Civil War veteran, former foreman for the Government Printing Office, Patent Office examiner, and inventor originally from Warsaw, New York. Captain Bartlett lived in Washington, D.C. until 1887, when he purchased 206 acres (0.83 km²) of farmland from Benjamin Holliday, which abutted the Highland subdivision. In 1899 Bartlett purchased the Fenwick family farm which was located to the west of the Holladay Company's Addition to Highland. The 95-acre (380,000 m2) area was surveyed and platted in 1899. The majority of homes in Brentwood were built during and after World War II. Growth continued through the 1940s and 1950s, fueled by an influx of government workers. In the 1950s and 1960s, many older homes were replaced and empty lots were filled with small cottages and ranch houses. There are two small service-oriented commercial areas. A focal point is Bartlett Park named for Captain Bartlet who deeded the land to the town. The park is home to the Wohlfarth Building, which serves as the Town Hall. Kerosene street lamps were added in 1917, and electric lights were installed in 1920.

The town's population was 1,071 at the 2010 census. It has a population of 1,081. The city's population is 1,091. It is located in the eastern part of the town of Brentwood, which is located on the Mississippi Missouri railroad line. Brentwood is the only town in the state to have a post office, which was established in 1872. It was named after the town's first postmaster, who was also the first African-American man to live in the town. The current postmaster was born in Brentwood in 1871. The last postmaster died in 1973. The post office was closed in 1978. It reopened in 1981 and was re-opened in 1998. It now has a ZIP code of 7054. It also has a postcode of 6054, which it shares with several other towns in the county, including Brentwood. It's located at the junction of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. The U.N. World Heritage Site is at the base of the Brentwood Mountain Range, which runs through the center of the city. The Brentwood River flows through the town and into the Mississippi River.

Government
The United States Postal Service operates the Brentwood Post Office. Prince George's County Police Department District 1 Station in Hyattsville serves Brentwood. Brentwood has a mayor and four council members, who are all elected at-large. As of February 2020, the current mayor of Brentwood is Rocio Treminio-Lopez. Elections are held in May every two years on the first Monday of the month, and the mayor is elected for a four-year term. The current mayor's term is scheduled to end in February 2020. The mayor's salary is $1,000 a year, with a maximum of $2,000 per year. The city's police department has a budget of $100,000. Transportation
Two state highways serve Brentwood. U.S. Route 1 connects southward through Mount Rainier to Washington, D.C. The other highway is Maryland Route 208, which heads southeast to Cottage City and northwest to Hyattsville.

Prince Georges County Public Schools operates public schools serving Brentwood. Notable person
William R. Callahan was a dissident Catholic priest in the 1960s and 1970s. He was known for his controversial views on homosexuality and abortion. He died in a car crash in 1998. He is remembered for his work as a priest in New Jersey and New York City.
