Ridgely was established on May 13, 1867 by the Maryland and Baltimore Land Association. The town was named after the Rev. Greenbury W. Ridgely. It became known as the "Strawberry Capital of the World" as a result of its prosperous agricultural business. Every May, Ridgely hosts the Strawberry Festival to celebrate its past. A Ridgely Historical Society was created in 2005 for the same purpose. As of the census of 2010, there were 1,639 people, 604 households, and 412 families residing in the town. The racial makeup of the town was 77.1% White, 16.3% African American, 0.9% Native American, 2.2% Asian, and 2.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.9%. The town's population was 1,352 as of the 2000 census. It is located at 38°5642N 75°531W (38.944896, -75.883489). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.78 square miles (4.61 km²), all land. The population of Ridgely was 81,539 as of 2010. The gender makeup of Ridgeley was 47.0% male and 53.0%. The population density was 920.8 inhabitants per square mile (355.5/km²) as of 2000 census of 2000, there was 513 people, and 349 families.

History

Ridgely was established on May 13, 1867 by the Maryland and Baltimore Land Association. The land was purchased from Thomas Bell and the Reverend Greenbury W. Ridgely. The town became known as the "Strawberry Capital of the World" as a result of its prosperous agricultural business. Every May, Ridgely hosts the Strawberry Festival to celebrate its past. A Ridgely Historical Society was created in 2005 for the same purpose. It was named after the Rev. Greenbury Ridgely, who was the town's first mayor. It is located on the railroad line now called theMaryland and Delaware. It has a population of 2,000, making it one of the smallest towns in the U.S. to have been established in the 19th century. It lies on the Delmarva Peninsula, which was once part of the Eastern Seaboard of the United States, and is now a part of Virginia. Its population is currently 2,100. It sits on the Delaware River, which runs through the center of the town. It also has a small portion of the New Jersey Turnpike, which is the state's only major thoroughfare. The area is known for its strawberries, huckleberries, vegetables, eggs, and poultry. It's also home to the Ridgely Strawberry Festival, which takes place every May. The festival is held on the last weekend in May. It attracts thousands of strawberry-growing families. It began in 1867 and continues to this day.

Ridgely is located at 38°5642N 75°531W (38.944896, -75.883489).According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.78 square miles (4.61 km²), all land. The town's population was 1,071 as of the 2010 Census. It has a population of 1,081, up from 1,061 in the 1950s. It is the only town in the state to have had a post office for more than 20 years. It was founded in 1881. The U.N. World Heritage Site is located in the town. It's the only U.K. town to have been declared a World War II Memorial Site by the World Heritage Committee. It also has a National Register of Historic Places site, which dates back to 1851. The city's name comes from the town's founder, William Ridgely, who was born in the area in 1852. The current mayor of Ridgely is his great-great-grandfather, William "Bill" Ridgely. He is a former mayor of the town, and served as mayor from 1973 to 1986. The village's name is derived from the word ridgely, which means "mountain" or "mountains" in English. It means "hill" in the local language, "ridgely" and "ridges" in Spanish. The community's nickname is "the mountain town" or simply "the mountains".

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,639 people, 604 households, and 412 families residing in the town. The racial makeup of the town was 77.1% White, 16.3% African American, 0.9% Native American,0.2% Asian, 2.5% from other races, and 3.1%. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.9%. The median income for a household in the city was $35,750. The per capita income for the town is $15,581. The town is located on the U.S. Census Bureau's Mid-Mississippi River Delta Statistical Area. It is the only town in the state to have had a population of more than 1,000 people at the 2010 census. The city's population was 1,352 at the time of the 2000 census, with 553 people living in 513 households. The median age was 32 years, with 30.4% of residents under the age of 18. The average household size was 2.71, and the average family size was 3.26. In the town, the age distribution of the population shows 30. 4% under the Age of 18, 8. 1% from 18 to 24, 31.1%) from 25 to 44, 19.6% from 45 to 64, and 10.8% who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females, there are 89.6 males. For each 100 females age 18 and over,there are 87.1 males.

Arts and culture

Oak Lawn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. Marble Head was listed in 2002. The town was once considered "The Strawberry Capital" and still holds a Strawberry Festival each May. It has the widest main street of any town in Maryland. It is home to the U.S. National Museum of Natural History, which was founded in 1872. It also hosts the National Park Service's National Arboretum and Sculpture Park. It was once known as the "Strawberry Capital of the World" for its annual Strawberry Festival. The city's main street is called "Oak Lawn" and was once called "Marble Head" because it is located on the town's main road, which is also known as "Marriage Lane" It was listed as a National Historic Site in 1975, and was listed again in 2002, when it was added to the National register of historic places. It's also home to a state park, "Tuckahoe State Park," which dates back to 1872, and a national park, which dates to 1876. It holds a national museum of natural history, "The National Park Museum", which was established in 1876, and is located in the town of Oak Lawn, Maryland. Its main attraction is the Arboreum, which has been open to the public since 1872 and is known as one of the oldest state parks in the United States. The state park also has its own museum of art, the National Gallery of Maryland, which opened in 1878.

It is located in the eastern part of the state, near the border with Maryland, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. It also has a small portion of Maryland's Eastern Seaboard, where it is located on the eastern edge of the Chesapeake Bay and the Maryland Turnpike. The area is also known as the "Ridgely area" because of its proximity to the town's main airport, which was built in the early 20th century. It was the site of the first U.S. Air Force base in the area, which opened in the late 1950s. The airpark was closed in the mid-1970s, but reopened in the 1980s.
