Hanover is an unincorporated community in northwestern Anne Arundel County and eastern Howard County in the U.S. state of Maryland. The community is located at the intersection of Maryland State Highway 100 and the BaltimoreWashington Parkway. It is located just southwest of the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (commonly known as "BWI"). It is bordered by Severn to the south, Linthicum to the east, and Elkridge to the north and west. Hanover has a median household income of $116,098. 49% of the residents are white, 28% are Black or African-American, 13% are Asian, 5% are Hispanic, and 5% of residents are two or more races. Native American tribes lived along the lower Patapsco river. archeological digs in 1929 have discovered arrowheads, spearpoints, axes, and gorgets along the Disney farm. The area is now occupied by commercial buildings along Hi Tech drive and Oxford Square development. Arundel Mills mall opened in November 2000. In August 2010, Preston Partners sought to rezone a failed commercial project on the historic Disney farm into a transit-oriented development funded by Magic Johnson. Hanover is served by the Anne Arundel County Public Schools and Howard County Public School system. Hanover is home to Hanover Hills Elementary School and Hanover High School. The town is also served by Hanover Middle School and High School, as well as a number of middle schools and high schools. The school system is part of the Howard County Schools system, which also serves Hanover in Howard County. The high school system includes Long Reach High School and Broadneck High School for high school students. The middle school system also includes Lindale Middle School, Brooklyn Park Middle, and Macarthur Middle School. It is also home to two high schools, Broadneck and North County High, both for 9-12 students. It also has one middle school and one high school for 6-8-12-year-olds. It has a high school option for the Magnet Program only, which must be accepted through application. The elementary school has a middle school program, which can be applied for through the school's application system. The public high school program has a magnet program, and can only be applied through the high school. It was established in the 1970s and is now in its current form in the 1990s.
