North Webster is a town in Tippecanoe Township, Kosciusko County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 1,146 at the 2010 census. North Webster was platted in 1837, and named for Daniel Webster. The post office at North Webster has been in operation since 1879. The Robert Orr Polygonal Barn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. The town is located at 41°1931N 85°4150W (41.325351, -85.697165). According to the 2010 Census, North Webster had a total area of 0.82 square miles (2.12 km²) (or 97.56%) is land, and 0.02 sq miles (0.05 km²), (or 2.44%) is water. In 2000, there were 1,067 people, 446 households, and 297 families living in the town. The racial makeup of the town was 96.3% White, 0.6% African American, 0,3% Asian, 1.0% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.5% of the population. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was2.85. The median income for a town resident was $39,038, and the median family income was $46,094. In the town, the median age was 41.6 years.

History

North Webster was platted in 1837, and named for Daniel Webster. The post office at North Webster has been in operation since 1879. The Robert Orr Polygonal Barn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. North Webster is located on U.S. Route 41, west of the town of Webster, New Hampshire. The town has a population of about 1,200. The North Webster post office was established in 1879, and is still in operation today.

Geography

North Webster is located at 41°1931N 85°4150W (41.325351, -85.697165).According to the 2010 census, North Webster has a total area of 0.82 square miles (2.12 km²) of which 0.8 square miles is land and 0.02 sq miles (0.05 km²), is water. North Webster is home to the North Webster High School, which was founded in 1903. The school is located in the town of North Webster and has a junior high and high school. The high school has a football field, a baseball field, and a softball field. The town has a post office with a ZIP code of 411931. The North Webster Post Office is open seven days a week, seven weeks a year. The post office is open from 9am to 5pm (Monday to Friday) and from 7am to 9pm (Saturday and Sunday) on weekdays. It is also open on the weekend, when the Post Office closes for the weekend. It has a high school, which opened in 1903, and an elementary school. It was the first post office in North Webster, and the first high school to open in the area. It also has a community center, which is open on weekends and holidays. The village has a public library, which opens on Saturday and Sunday morning. It closed on August 1, 2008, and reopened on August 2, 2008. The last time it was open was on the last day of the summer.

Demographics

There were 501 households, of which 27.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.1% were married couples, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.8% were non-families, and 16.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was2.85. The gender makeup of the town was 48.3% male and 51.7% female. There were 612 housing units at an average density of 765.0 per square mile (295.4/km²) There were 1,067 people, 446 households, and 297 families living in the town. For every 100 females, there were 90.2 males, and the median income for a family was $46,094. The town's population was 97.84% White, 0.28% African American, 1.0% Asian, and 0.69% Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.5% of the population. The median age in the city was 41.6 years, and for every 100 males age 18 and over there were 85.1 males. There was a median income of $36,406 for females and $18,824 for males. The racial makeup was 96.3%. White was the majority, followed by African American and then by Native American and Asian. The city's median income was $39,038.

The Lakes

North Webster is situated in Indiana's lakes region. During the summertime the area is popular for boating and fishing. Inside the town of North Webster is Lake Webster. The area is also home to several other lakes.

Education

The town has a lending library, the North Webster Community Public Library. The town also has a public school, North Webster High School, and North Webster Middle School. North Webster has a high school and a middle school, both are open to the public. It also has an elementary and high school, all of which are open for the public to use. It has a junior high and a senior high, both of which also are open. It is a small town, with a population of about 2,000 people. It was founded in 1872. It's located in the town of Webster, New Hampshire, and is on the U.S. Census tract for the state of New Hampshire.

Arts and culture

North Webster is home to The Dixie, Indianas oldest stern wheel paddle boat. There are a few antique shops and bait shops, a CVS, a Dollar General and an Ace Hardware in town. There is a castle in the middle of town, previously home to International Palace of Sports [1]. The castle is currently home to Pilcher's, one of the largest shoe stores in Indiana, The River Coffeehouse[2] and a massage therapist. North Webster is also home to the North Webster Lions Club's largest fundraiser of the year, the Mermaid Festival, which takes place during the last full week of June. In 2007, a laser light show was substituted for the fireworks and in 2008 there was a video slideshow. 2015 marked the 70th annual Mermaid Festival. The theme that year was 'Back to the 70s' The theme of the festival was 'The Mermaids of North Webster' The Mermaids are a group of mermaids who live on the lake in North Webster, Indiana. The festival ends with fireworks at the end of the Mermaid Parade on Saturday night. The Mermaid Festival is the largest fundraiser for the Lions Club and is held every year in the last week in June. The club also hosts the annual Miss Mermaid contest, which is open to the public. The winner of the Miss Mermaid Contest is crowned Miss Mermaid of the Year and receives a $100,000 prize. The Miss Mermaid Award is given to the best mermaid in the state of Indiana.
