Bicknell is a city in Knox County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,915 at the 2010 census. It is located at 38°4625N 87°1829W (38.773512, 87.307967) The city was laid out in 1869 by John Bicknell, and named for him. The climate in this area is characterized by humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. It has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps. The city has a total area of 1.35 square miles (3.50 km²), all land. The 2010 census showed that the city's population was 97.6% White, 0.2% Native American, 0,2% Asian, and 1.0% from two or more races. In the 2000 census, there were 3,378 people, 2,156 households and 1,913 families living in the city. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.10. The median age was 38.7 years, with 25.3% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 25 to 44, and 16.4% from 45 to 64. The gender makeup of the city was 48.7 per cent male and 51.3 per cent female. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that the average household income is $31.95 per person, and the median income for a family is $32.35 per person.

History

Bicknell was laid out in 1869 by John Bicknell, and named for him. It is one of the oldest cities in the United States. The city was named for John Bickernell, who laid out the city. It was named after Bickernel's son, who was also named for the town. The town has a population of about 2,000, with the majority of its residents living in the central area.
