Loves Park is a city in Boone and Winnebago counties in the U.S. state of Illinois. The population was 23,996 at the 2010 census, up from 20,044 in 2000. The city is part of the Rockford Metropolitan Statistical Area.Dick Kulpa, cartoonist, and Robin Zander, singer of Cheap Trick, are among the city's notable residents. Loves Park was incorporated in 1947 and is located at 42°1934N 89°133W (42.326227, -89.025739). The city has a total area of 16.446 square miles, of which 16.03 square miles (41.52 km²) (or 97.47%) is land and 0.416 sq miles (1.08 km²), (or 2.53%) is water. The median household income was $45,238 and the median family income was $52,061. The per capita income for the city was $20,781 (or 5.0% of those under age 18 and 3.5% of people aged 65 or over) The city was founded in 1901 by Malcolm Love, an industrialist in Rockford, Illinois, who purchased 236 acres of land in this area. He set up a gathering place known as Love's Park, and it was named after him. The town is located on the Illinois River, which runs through the center of the city. The river is a tributary of the Illinois Chain of Lakes.

History

Loves Park is the primary city name, but also Machesney Park, Machesney Pk are acceptable city names or spellings. Malcolm Love, an industrialist in Rockford, Illinois, purchased 236 acres of land in this area in 1901 and set up a gathering place that came to be known as Love's Park. The city of Loves Park was incorporated in 1947. The park was named for Malcolm Love, who was a member of the Rockford City Council from 1901-1947. It is located on the banks of the Illinois River, near the city of Rockford and the Illinois Turnpike.

Geography

Loves Park is located at 42°1934N 89°133W (42.326227, -89.025739).According to the 2010 census, Loves Park has a total area of 16.446 square miles (41.52 km²) (or 97.47%) of which is land and 0.416square miles (1.08 km²), or 2.53%) is water. The park has a population of 1,788. It is located in the U.S. state of Utah. The town is located on the Utah Turnpike, which runs through the town. It was built in the early 1900s and was named after a local family of the same name. The community has a history of being active in the Mormon community. It also has been known as the "Park of the Rockies" because of its proximity to the Rocky Mountains. It has been home to a number of notable figures, including President Abraham Lincoln and former President George W. Bush, who both served in the Utah Territorial Legislature. The current mayor of the town is Tim McGraw, who served from 2003 to 2007. He was elected to a second term in 2008. The city is home to the University of Utah, which was founded in the late 1800s. The U.N. World Heritage Site is on the park's campus, which dates back to the 17th century. The Park's name is derived from the word "loves", which means "love" or "lover" in Spanish.

It has been known as the "Bulge" since the early 1900s, when it was the location of the first railroad line to the area. The name was derived from the word "bulge" which means "bullet" or "bunker" in Spanish. The word "bilge" is also used to refer to an area of land that was once owned by the Spanish-speaking tribe of the same name, which was called the "Bilge" until the mid-19th century. The current name was coined by the city's residents in the early 20th century, when they began using the term "bilb" for the area of the river. The area was once called "the bulge" due to the presence of a large amount of Native American and Native American land.
