Edinburg is located at 39°3928N 89°2323W. It has a total area of 0.63 square miles (1.63 km²), all land. The population was 1,085 at the 2020 census. Since 1945 Edinburg boasts an annual Labor Day Picnic and Parade which emphasizes the rural and agricultural history of the area. The village's age distribution consisted of 21.4% under the age of 18, 3.9% from 18 to 24, 29.5% from 25 to 44, 28% from 45 to 64, and 17.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The town is located on the Illinois Turnpike, which runs from Chicago to Illinois State Route 60. The Turnpix is a popular tourist destination in the state. It was built in the 1880s and is one of the oldest towns in Illinois. The turnpike was originally built to connect the Chicago area with the Illinois River.

The town is located in the province of Pueblo, in the north-eastern part of the state of Hidalgo. It is located near the border with Mexico, and is about 40 miles from the city of Córdoba in the south-easterly region of the same state. The population of the city is 2,716. It was the site of a World War II bombing campaign in the 1940s and 1950s. It also hosted a U.S. Army base in the 1950s and 1960s, which was known as the "Edinburg Barracks" The city's population has grown since the early 1980s, when it was just over 1,000 people. The current population is around 2,000. The mayor of Edinberg is a former mayor of the town of Cádoba, Héctor López-Gómez, who served from 1989 to 1993. He was elected to a second term in office in 2010. He served as mayor from 2010 to 2013, and was re-elected in 2013. The last time the city was listed as having a mayor was in 2010, when the city had 2,638 residents.

Labor Day Festivities
Since 1945 Edinburg boasts an annual Labor Day Picnic and Parade. Activities including demolition derbies, tractor pulls, chili cook-offs, live music, games, rides, tournaments and a Labor Day Parade. The parade emphasizes the rural and agricultural history of the area. The festival is free and open to the public.
