Farmersville is a city in the San Joaquin Valley in Tulare County, California, United States, just to the east of Visalia. The population was 10,588 at the 2010 census, up from 8,737 at the 2000 census. The current population of Farmersville, California is 10,359 based on our projections of the latest US Census estimates. The city helps sponsor many events throughout the year, including a Memorial Day Parade in May, which is well attended and manage to draw around 4,000 visitors from the surrounding areas every Memorial Day. In October a Fall Festival is held on the downtown boulevard. In December a Christmas Tree Lighting event is held at the Old Methodist Church building. Until 1863, other residents living on the east side of the county traveled through Farmersville on the Visalia Road. They rode their horse-drawn wagons to get their mail, purchase supplies and bring their goods to sell. In 1866 two entrepreneurs, John Crowley and his brother in law Merrill Jasper opened a large general store in Farmersville. During this time the application for the Post Office and the name of the town were finally approved by the US Government. The location of the Brundage General Merchandise store and the Brown Hotel is near what is now Sam's Foods Supermarket (old Nickel's Payless store), commemorated by a historic granite marker in the parking lot. In 1945 Farmersville voted to pay for its own police department. The town had one on duty during this time.

History

Farmersville's first school was built there to accommodate the farm children in the area. In the Fly family history, which is preserved in a book written about their travels to California, there is talk about attending the Deep Creek School in the 1860s. Just east of the Brundage General Store was the Brown Hotel, which served meals to passengers during the horse changeover for the Overland Stage. The first city council was composed of James Tornow, James Truman, James Qualls, Don Freeman, Steven Willis Freeman, and Jim Carl Waddle. The city struggled to get proper water and wastewater treatment plant on the City Council's first disincorporation in October 1968. In October 1968, the city council disincorporated and Farmersville became a city. The name Farmersville was finally approved by the US Government in December 1910. The town had one Police Officer on duty during this time. A small group of residents presented themselves to these officials early as early as 1945 to incorporate. Before 1960, the town was under the authority of the County of Fresno. In 1960 the town had its own police department, and by the end of the 1960s the city had one police officer on duty, and it was the first city to pay for its own water and Wastewater treatment plant. It was also the first town to have its own post office, and the first post office to open in Farmersville. It is now a suburb of Fresno, California, with a population of about 2,000.

Geography

Farmersville is located at 36°184N 119°1227W (36.301169, -119.207603).According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.3 square miles (6.0 km²), all of it land. The city is located on the banks of the Red River. The Red River flows through the center of the city. The town has a population of about 2,000. It is located near the junction of the Arkansas River and the Arkansas Turnpike. The Arkansas River runs through the middle of the town. It also runs through a portion of the eastern side of the village. The river runs from north to south through the town of Farmersville. It was named after Farmersville, an early settler of the area. The community is also known as Farmersville or Farmersville County, after the first settlers of the region. The name Farmersville means "farmersville" or "farmer's village" in English. It means "home" in Spanish. It has a history of being known as "Farmer'sville" and "Farmsville" in the Spanish language. It became a city in the 19th century, and was named for the Farmersville family, who settled the area in the 18th century. The current mayor of the community is David Farmers, who was born in Farmersville in 1881. The U.N. World Heritage Site is located in the town, and is listed as one of the world's oldest cities.

Its stores include Dollar General, Rite Aide, Sams Foods Supermarket, AutoZone, Napa, and O'Reilly's auto parts. It is located in the San Francisco Bay Area, near San Francisco and San Diego. It has a population of about 3,000. It was founded as a college town in the early 1900s. It became a city in the mid-20th century, and is now home to the University of California, San Francisco. It also has a university campus, which was founded in the late 20th century. The town is located on the banks of the San Franciso River, which flows into the San Diego River. Farmersville has a single unified school district with Farmersville High School (the Aztecs), a middle school, and 3 elementary schools. J.E. Hester School is an elementary school for kindergartners and 1st graders, George L. Snowden Elementary is for 2nd and 3rd graders. The newest school is Freedom Elementary which is for 4th, 5th and 6th graders and Farmersville will be building a new middle school east of Freedom School in the future. Farmersville Methodist Church was built in the 1870s in Goshen, California, and after little usage the Visalia Methodist congregation purchased the church with the help of Farmersville church members in 1899-1900. It was established on South Farmersville Boulevard just south of Visalia Road, also known as the "Four Corners". The Boys and Girls Club took over the building for a couple of years. In 2009 it found a new location and was moved to N farmersville Boulevard and W. Front Street. The steeple broke and was rebuilt using fishtail shingles. The Farmersville United Methodist Church continued until March 2004. It is now located on N Farmersville Blvd and W Front Street and is open to the public for worship and other activities. The church is located on the corner of South Farmersvill Boulevard and N Farmersvill Blvd. It has a capacity of about 1,000 people and is located in a large parking lot. The chapel was rolled into Farmersville on logs, pulled by horses sometime afterward. The Founders of the early FarmersvilleMethodist Church were Thomas J Brundage, Mr Sims and Rev. G. E Foster.
