Healdsburg is a city in Sonoma County, California, in California's Wine Country. At the 2010 census, the city had a population of 11,254. It lies on the Russian River, near a point used as a crossing of the river since the 1850s that is now the site of the Healdsburg Memorial Bridge. The city has a total area of 4.464 sq mi (11.6 km²), of which 4.457 sq mi is land and 0.007sq mi (0.0 km²) is water. The most precipitation in one month was 29.9 in (760 mm) in January 1995, and the highest yearly snowfall totaled 0.8 in (20 mm) on December 3, 1980. The average high temperature is 57.6 °F (14.2 °C) and the average low is 38.2 in (1,070 mm) annual precipitation. There are an average of 73 days annually with measurable precipitation. The wettest year was 1983 with 96.25 in (2,445 mm), and the driest year is 1976 with 13.67 in (347 mm) The city owns two open space reserves stewarded by LandPaths. Fitch Mountain Open Space Preserve has 173 acres of wetlands, oak woodlands, chaparral, grasslands, and grasslands. City support recycling by use of the Open Space Transfer Station creating a quiet environment by creating a Healdburg Station.
History
Early inhabitants of the local area included the Pomo people, who constructed villages in open areas along the Russian River. Anglo-American and Russian settlement may have commenced in the mid-19th century. In 1867, Healdsburg's eponymous small town was incorporated. The San Francisco and North Pacific Railroad reached Heldsburg in 1872. The city's Carnegie Library is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as is the Heardsburg Memorial Bridge. The City Council has identified 13 important Historic Structures and Districts in the city, including the City Hall, the City Council Chambers, the Town Hall, and the Municipal Auditorium. The town is located within the former township of Mendocino, California, which was established in 1836. It is located on the San Francisco Bay, which is the site of the original town of Mendo, and is known as "Mendocino City" The city was founded in 1867 by Harmon Heald, an Ohio businessman who had been squatting on Rancho Sotoyome since 1850. Heald was the first owner of the town's first public library, which opened in 1868. The first city hall was built in 1869. The Healdsburg Memorial Bridge was completed in 1875. It carries the name "Healdsburg" in honor of the city's first mayor, who was born in 1858, and was named after Heald's son, who died in a car accident in 1881.

City has shown an interest in creating a quiet environment by creating a Noise Element of the General Plan, which defines baseline sound level contours and sets forth standards of quiet for each land use category. City owns two open space reserves stewarded by LandPaths. The HeALDsburg Ridge Open Space Preserve has 150 acres (61 ha) of wetlands, oak woodlands, chaparral, and grasslands, while the Fitch Mountain Open Spacepreserve has 173 acres (70 ha).
Demographics
At the 2010 census Healdsburg had a population of 11,254. There were 4,378 households, 1,335 (30.5%) had children under the age of 18 living in them, 2,140 (48.9%) were opposite-sex married couples living together, 465 (10.6%) had a female householder with no husband present, and 222 (5.1%) had no male householder. The average household size was 2.56. The median age was 40.8 years. For every 100 females, there were 96.5 males. The City also has a chapter of the Sierra Club, which has been active in the community for more than 50 years.
Transportation
Amtrak Thruway and Sonoma County Transit buses serve the Depot. Healdsburg is a proposed future stop on the SonomaMarin Area Rail Transit commuter rail line. The Depot is located on the California State Route 9 corridor. It is located near the intersection of State Route 17 and State Route 49. The depot is located at the intersection. of State Highway 9 and State Highway 49. It also is near the junction of the State Route 7 corridor and the Santa Rosa State Highway. It was built in the early 1900s as a depot for the California Army Corps of Engineers. It has since been converted to a bus depot. It opened in the mid-1930s and is now home to a Sonoma-Marin County Transit bus station. The station is also home to an Amtrak station and an Amtrak rail station.
