Trussville is a city in Jefferson and St. Clair counties in the State of Alabama. It is a suburb of Birmingham and part of the Birmingham-Hoover Metropolitan Statistical Area. Its population at the 2020 census was 26,123. Trussville was listed as an incorporated community on the 1890 and 1900 U.S. Census rolls. It was incorporated as a town on May 31, 1957, and officially became a city on this date. The first European settler to establish residence in the area was Warren Truss, who constructed a grist mill on the Cahaba River in 1821. The Cahaba Project, a planned development of over 250 homes constructed by Franklin D. Roosevelt's Government Resettlement Administration during the 1930s, was a major factor in the city's growth and development. The city is located at 33°3718N 86°3547W (33.621623, -86.596404). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 22.3 square miles (58 km²), of which 22.2 square miles. (57 km²) is land and 0.1square miles (0.26km²) (0.27%) is water. The National Register of Historic Places added the city to its list of places of interest in 2002. It has a population of 26,123, making it one of the most populous cities in Alabama. The population of the city in the 2010 census was 25,816.
Geography
Trussville is located at 33°3718N 86°3547W (33.621623, -86.596404).According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 22.3 square miles (58 km²) of which 22.2square miles (57 km²), is land and 0.1square miles(0.26km²) (0.27%) is water. Trussville has a population of 2,816. The city is located in the Mobile-Dakotah National Guard Air Force Base, which is located on the Alabama-Mississippi state line. The Alabama-Tennessee state line is located just south of the city. The state line divides the city into two sections, the North and the South. The North and South sections are connected by the Alabama Turnpike, which runs from the north to the south. The South and South portions of the state line run from the Alabama River to the Mississippi River, which connects to the Gulf of Mexico at the Alabama/Missississippi border. It is the only state in the South that does not have a state-level football stadium, but does have a high school football stadium. The University of Alabama has a football team that competes in the Alabama High School Football Championship and the Alabama Interscholastic Football Championship. The school's mascot is the Trojans, who play the Alabama Crimson Tide football team. The town's nickname is "The Red Devils".
History
The first European settler to establish residence in the area was Warren Truss, who constructed a grist mill on the Cahaba River in 1821. Trussville remained an agricultural community until after the Civil War, when the Alabama-Chattanooga Railway was built through the city. The Cahaba Project, a planned development of over 250 homes constructed by Franklin D. Roosevelt's Government Resettlement Administration during the 1930s, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. On May 31, 1957, the town officially became a city. In the 30-year period between 1980 and 2010, the city grew by over 500%. It has seen much residential and retail construction, with two major shopping centers built during the early 2000s: the Colonial Promenade on its western side and the Tutwiler Farm and Pinnacle at the I-59/I-459 interchange at 11-459. It is one of the most rapidly growing areas of the Birmingham region, with a population of over 100,000. It was listed as an incorporated community on the 1890 and 1900 U.S. Census rolls. At some point after 1900 until its reincorporation in 1947, it did not appear on census records. On June 10, 1947, Trussedville was incorporated as a town, and on this date the official name was adopted as the City of Trussvile. It became Trussedvile on May 31, 1957, and it became the city's official name on July 1, 1957.

Trussville City Schools serve 4,269 students and are ranked among the top 10 districts in the state of Alabama. The mascot is the Husky, and team colors are red and gray. Trussville schools were part of the Jefferson County School System until 2005. In 2004, the city council passed a resolution that created the Trussedville Board of Education. In 2005, Trussvile City Schools officially separated from the Jefferson county School System. The system consists of five schools:Hewitt-Trussvillian High School (grades 912) and Cahaba Elementary School, (grades K-5) Magnolia Elementary School and Paine Elementary School (grade 6-8) are also in the system. The school district is located in the town of Hewitt, Alabama, about 30 miles north of Birmingham. It is located on the Alabama-Mississippi state line. The district is home to the Alabama Crimson Tide football team, which plays in the Alabama State Series. The Husky is the team's mascot, and its colors are gray and red. The team's colors are also red andgray. It has a football team that plays for the Alabama A&M Crimson Tide, which competes in the National Football League (NFL) and the NCAA Division I Football Championship Series (NCAA).
