Collinsville is a town in DeKalb and Cherokee counties in the U.S. state of Alabama. It was incorporated in 1887. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,983. The town is located in the Little Wills Valley, between Lookout Mountain to the east and the smaller Big Ridge to the west. Collinsville's largest employer is Koch Foods, a poultry plant that employees approximately 800 employees. The CHS Panthers football team was the first football team in Dekalb County to play a regular season game in 1920. The All-American University of Alabama has a very strong tradition in basketball at Collinsville. The area is characterized by hot summers, generally mild winters, and generally cool summers to cool winters.Collinsville High School has won 3 State Championships in Basketball since 1975 (A-4), Soccer (1-4) and Girls Basketball (2-A) Collinsville High is home to the Collinsville Panthers, a high school football team that played a regular football season in 1920, and a girls basketball team that competes in Class 3A. The high school has also won three state championships in basketball since 1975, and one in soccer (B-4). The town has a total area of 3.9 square miles (10.2 km²), of which 0.44% is water. Geography

Collinsville is located in southern DeKalb County at 34°15'55.555" North, 85°51'41.483" West (34.265432, -85.861523). A small portion extends southeast along Alabama State Route 68 into Cherokee County. The town is located between Lookout Mountain to the east and the smaller Big Ridge to the west. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.9 square miles (10.2 km²), of which 0.019 sq miles (0.05 km²) is water. It has a population of 1,071. The city is located on the Alabama Turnpike, which runs through the center of the town. It is located near the junction of Alabama State Road 68 and Alabama State Highway 68. It also has a small portion of Alabama Route 68 in Cherokee County, which also runs through Collinsville. The Town of Collinsville was founded in the early 1900s. It was named after Collinsville, Alabama, a town on the turnpike that was once known as the "Collinsville Road" The town's name is derived from the Collinsville River, which is a tributary of the Little Wills River. It flows through the town to the north and south. The name Collinsville comes from the word Collins, which means "council" or "town" in English. It means "town of the same name" in French.

Education

Collinsville Elementary (K-6) and Collinsville High (7-12), home of the Panthers. The CHS football team was the first football team in Dekalb County. Collinsville also has a very strong tradition in other sports. For instance, the first All-American in basketball at The University of Alabama, Lindy Hood, was a Collinsville alum. The schools are members of the DeKalb County School System. The Panthers' first team was in 1920. The schedule in 1920 included a regular season game vs. Jacksonville State University. The school has won 3 State Championships since 1975. The most recent was in 2013 (1A-4A) The school currently competes in Class 3A. It is located in the town of Collinsville, Alabama, about 30 miles south of Birmingham, Alabama. It has a population of about 2,000 people. The high school is located near the city of Cullman, about 20 miles north of the Alabama-Mississippi state line. It was founded in 1883 and is located on the banks of the Tallahassee River. Its mascot is the "Panther" and the school colors are blue and white.
